When you apply for a job, there are some essential elements you need to take into account. There are four basic methods of applying for a job, namely sending your resume by post, e-mail, fax or even hand delivering it. These four different methods can be applied to various jobs, depending on the preferences of the employers or even depending on your preferences.

There are certain companies which prefer you to mail your resume. If it is the case, then you should definitely include a cover letter with your resume; the cover letter is used to describe the position you are interested in, as well as some basic information on your qualifications, skills and experience in a certain field.

The cover letter is very important when submitting this type of application, because it is the way in which you are presenting yourself, and you need to send a cover letter that would convince the employer that you may be the right candidate for the job and they must certainly call you to an interview.

When writing the letter, it is important to know who you will address it to. It is not very nice to begin a cover letter with the phrase “Dear Sir or Madame” or worse, “To whom it may Concern.”.

This shows that you have not done your homework with regards to the company you are submitting the letter to; an employer does not like to receive resumes of people that want to get just any job they can, instead they are searching for people who are interested in applying for a particular job in their company. This is an important aspect, so you should never undermine its relevance if you want to get a good job.

Sending your resume by e-mail is a very common practice these days, as many employers find it much easier to receive and select resumes.

You simply need to attach a Word or PDF file to your e-mail; these are the most popular formats, and companies usually expect the resumes from prospective employees in one of these formats. The subject of the e-mail should include your name and the position you are plying for, because it would be much easier for them to make a general selection of the resumes.

This also ensures that your e-mail will be read. This may not seem like an important aspect, but in fact it is. That is why some companies have specific requests they make to prospective candidates with regards to sending their resumes by e-mail. If you want to apply for such a position, you need to follow the instructions you are given, because they are important to the respective company.
